If               you               do               any               amount               of               shopping               around               for               your               hotel               you're               likely               to               find               wildly               different               prices               at               seemingly               inconsequential               times               or               for               puzzling               and               seemingly               insubstantial               reasons.

Don't               shy               away               from               your               research;               what               you're               seeing               is               not               out               of               the               ordinary               and               for               the               people               who               put               a               little               bit               of               leg               work               in               and               understand               when               to               get               their               hotels,               they               are               often               rewarded               with               significantly               lower               rates               from               the               person               who               goes               straight               through               to               the               800               number               or               walks               up               to               the               counter               the               day               of.

That               is               one               common               misconception               that               should               be               shot               down;               you               are               not               going               to               pay               less               just               because               it's               the               day               of.

If               you               go               up               to               the               front               desk               at               11PM               and               they               are               only               43%               full,               you're               generally               not               going               to               get               a               better               rate.

In               fact               you're               often               more               likely               to               get               a               considerably               higher               rate               because               if               you're               traveling               at               11PM               then               chances               are               you're               going               to               pay               whatever               they               want               you               to!

Similarly               if               you               go               up               to               the               front               desk,               even               if               it's               at               2               in               the               morning,               and               they've               only               got               two               rooms               remaining,               they're               usually               going               to               try               and               shirk               you               for               the               most               they               can.

Even               the               overnight               auditor               usually               won't               be               able               to               slide               the               rate               down               too-too               far.

If               you've               got               unrealistic               expectations               for               how               much               you're               going               to               get               discounted               and               then               you               start               haggling,               the               more               likely               they               are               to               stand               firm.

However               if               you               are               considerate               and               understanding               and               let               up               when               they've               told               you               that's               the               best               they               can               do,               you're               much               likely               to               score               higher               in               the               karmic               race               anyway.

You               should               think,               "who               would               I               want               to               do               a               favor               for?"               and               be               that               person.
